THE MANAGEMENT TEAM
Mervyn qualified with a BSc in Quantity Surveying (University of Cape Town in 1976 and with a Masters degree in Business Administration (Stellenbosch) in 1980.
He has gained broad range of experience and has worked as a trainee quantity surveyor a professional quantity surveying office, a site quantity surveyor in a listed construction company, a project manager in a property development company and as a manager of a real estate brokerage before joining SBDS Cape Town as an equity partner in 1985
Besides the competencies required to practice as a professional quantity surveyor he has gained experience in putting together major feasibility studies as well as in project and construction management.
Mariki Terblanche studied at UCT and obtained a B.Sc (QS) in 1977. She joined SBDS in 1984 and has been a director since 1987.
Her main focus is luxury housing and contract administration. She often takes on legal work as expert witness, ensuring that SBDS always stays on top of the current legal rulings. As a result the firm has managed to stay out of legal disputes on own projects since she joined in 1987.
Mariki believes in serving her clients first, but would not hesitate to give an opinion if she thinks that the project is suffering as a result of a client, the contractor or any other professional’s behaviour.
She is always interested and the full scope of the building process and has an extensive network of contractors, specialist and suppliers in South Africa and world wide.
She is always willing to share her sound knowledge of building construction and materials with the team to the advantage of her projects.
She is very much a one on one person and is always available to her clients.
THE COST CONSULTING TEAM
Danming completed a B.Tech Quantity Surveying degree at Cape University of Technology in 2008, but started working for SBDS while still a student in 2004.
She is an expert in contract administration and measurement, and has extensive experience of both commercial and luxury housing projects.
Gerné qualified with a BSc in Quantity Surveying from the University of the Free State in 2016 and is currently completing her Honours Degree part time. She has been with SBDS since 2017, working mostly on Government projects, but also assisting with arbitration work.
Gerne is a highly motivated person with a great future at SBDS.
THE SUPPORT TEAM
Samantha has been with SBDS since 2008. She joined the company as a PA but has subsequently become an integral part of the day to day running of the firm. She is our general office manager, heading up admin, accounts, and finance as well as overseeing the personal affairs of the directors. There is nothing that Sam cannot organise. Sam is a busy lady, but she always has a smile on her face.
Reuben Nyakileni has been with SBDS since 2011. He is responsible for collections and deliveries, kitchen management and food preparation and also helps with data entry from time to time.
